The objective of the Program:
Starting school is an important transition step for all children. With school, children are expected to gain a lot of knowledge and skills. Learning to read is at the top of these skills, and reading is the most important goal of the first grade. The difficulties children encounter in learning to read when they start school and the results of the studies conducted to identify these difficulties have brought up the issue of developing reading preparation skills in pre-school period and then the concept of “early literacy”. This concept emphasizes that although the reading outcome is the general goal of the first grade in primary school, its foundations are actually laid in the preschool period. Children who gain the early literacy skills necessary for pre-school reading skill face less difficulty in reading acquisition with primary school.
